That's the amount Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, owner of English Premier League club Chelsea, spent at a leading New York Italian restaurant, Nello's.
Abramovich, his girlfriend Dasha Zhukova, his son Arkady and three business associates drank some of the world’s finest wines and feasted on truffles, veal, seafood and pasta. what they couldn't eat they gave to diners on other tables, the Daily Mail newspaper in the UK reports
"When they started ordering, it was clear that excellence and perfection was on their agenda, rather than looking at the price," restaurant owner Nello Balan told the Daily Mail.
A witness claimed Mr Abramovich didn’t flinch as he picked up the bill at the restaurant and enquired if service was included. It was - $8115 of it.
"We were all high-fiving each other in the kitchen after he left,’ said a waiter. "That was a great tip, considering the length of time he stayed."
Mr Ba an said Abramovich's table ordered two bottles of Chateau Petrus wine, three bottles of La Tache Romanee Conti pinot noir and two magnums of Cristal rosé champagne - all at $5530 ($US5000) a bottle, meaning they spent more than $38,000 on wine alone, although former model Ms Zhukova, who is seven months pregnant, was sticking to mineral water at $18.15 a bottle.
